Welcome, dear reader, to
The Valuation Theory Home Page
ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear colleagues and friends, readers of the Valuation Theory Home Page,
so far, this web site has been hosted by the department server of the Mathematics
Department at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. We acknowledge the
support we have received with gratitude.
Unfortunately, the department server will be switched off any time now. Sadly, the IT
department is not willing to host the Valuation Theory Home Page. On the one hand, this
flies in the face of the promise by the Vice-Provost, Faculty Relations, which at the
moment when we were notified of this refusal still was: "Continued access for emeriti to
host faculty web sites, which is provided on an individual basis with a recommendation
from the department head"
(see the screenshot).
Without doubt, we would have received this recommendation,
given that the Valuation Theory Home Page provides an important service to the
mathematical community, increases the visibility of the department and moreover,
documents an important historical segment of the activities of the department driven by
three of its former members, who for example organised the Colloquiumfest series and the
first International Valuation Theory Conference in Saskatoon.
On the other hand, even if the IT department would support faculty web sites from emeriti,
these would have to be produced with described programs creating web pages in a fixed style.
As far too often now, this shows the urge from administrators for uniformity. But
"uniformity" is the opposite of "universality", from which "university" is derived. This
uniformity, this straightjacket, does not fit the Valuation Theory Home Page.
We are very happy to announce that we have found a more liberal home for the Valuation
Theory Home Page. The Kurt Gödel Research
Center for Mathematical Logic at the University
of Vienna is willing to be its new host. The move from Saskatoon to Vienna may take some
time, and it can happen that the Valuation Theory Home Page will be offline in the
meanwhile. But we promise that we will be back, in an improved form. Please contact us if
you have any suggestions for the reshaping of the Valuation Theory Home Page.
This web site is intended to be a forum for all mathematicians
who work in valuation theory or apply valuation theoretical results
in their own field of research. The home page offers:
- pdf-, ps- or dvi-files or arXiv-links of
papers, books,
theses, and lecture notes in valuation theory
- slides of conference talks
- information about
conferences and
events,
- names and email
addresses
of mathematicians working in or with
valuation theory, and, if possible, links to their home pages
- a comprehensive
bibliography
as Bibtex-, dvi- and postscript file, which presently contains 770
entries,
- a page for
open
problems and, hopefully, their solutions,
- interesting
NEWS
in connection with valuation theory,
- some useful
links,
- a page for
historical
information and related questions,
- a page with links and background materials about Bibliometry, open access journals, article processing charges.
If you have suggestions, questions, ideas, news, or if you want your
name and address on the above mentioned list, or if you have a recent
paper in or applying valuation theory, then write to

Bibliometry, open access journals, article
processing charges
This page provides links, background information and discussion about bibliometry and open
access journals. Please send any contributions you may want to make.
