THE TWENTIETH COLLOQUIUMFEST Speaker: Franziska Jahnke Title: Dreaming about NIP fields Abstract: NIP is one of the model-theoretic dividing lines which were introduced by Shelah. Conjecturally, these dividing lines correspond to algebraic properties in the model theory of fields. We discuss the main conjectures about NIP fields, the implications between them and what their consequences are. In particular, we show that the two most common versions of the conjecture that an infinite NIP field is separably closed, real closed, or 'p-adic like' are equivalent. This is joint work in progress with Sylvy Anscombe.
