Math 101.3, Section 2, Term 2, 2000-01
Elementary Calculus: An elementary introduction to calculus including functions, limits, derivatives,
techniques of differentiation, curve sketching and maximum and minimum problems, antiderivatives, and the integral.
Prerequisite: Mathematics B30
Meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:30 to 3:20 PM in Arts 143.

Instructor Information:
Tests, the Final Examination, and the Grading Scheme
- Tests and the final examination will be multiple-choice and computer graded.
- Calculators will not be allowed for any of these tests/examination.
- The Final Examination will be of 3-hour duration, and will be comprehensive of the entire course.
- Students scoring less than 35% on the final examination will receive a failing grade in this
course.
- Subject to the above conditions,
- A three-hour final examination will count 70% towards your final grade.
- Three 50-minute term tests will be given during the term, with the best two counting 15% each
towards the final grade. Thus two term tests counting 15% each will count 30% towards the final grade.
- The dates of the term tests are: January 31, March 7, March 21
Assignments:
- Assignments for grading will not be given. Students are expected to do as many of the recommended
questions at the end of each section of the text as possible. Assistance can be obtained at the Math Help Centre.
- In order to succeed in a university course in mathematics, it is necessary to practice your
skills by doing problems. Real understanding and an ability to do problems only comes with much practice.
- Sample tests or other handouts may be made available.
