From an email by Caroline Grant Melles, Friday, 3 Nov 2000:
"Dear Friends,
Yesterday I received some very sad news about Ruth Michler. On Wednesday, November 1, at about 4 pm, she was killed in a accident near the math department of Northeastern University when her bicycle was hit by a construction truck as she waited at a busy intersection. She was on her way to take an application to Radcliffe's Bunting Institute. ...
I have known Ruth since we met at the Fields Institute in Toronto in 1997. We shared an office for a few days and we became instant friends. She had tremendous energy and was the driving force behind the three special sessions we organized and the conference proceedings we put together for the San Antonio meeting.
I know that all of us who knew Ruth will miss her. ...
With best wishes, Caroline Melles"
