(4) A rectangular building lot is 18 meters wide. The length of a diagonal between opposite corners is 3.5 meters more than the length of the lot. What is the length of the lot?
SOLUTION: 



  (3.5 + x)2 = 182 + x2
  49/4 + 7x + x2 = 324 + x2

  7x = 324 - 49/4
     = (1296 - 49)/4
     = 1247/4

   x = 1247/28
