Example 1:

Find the terminal point on the unit circle determined by 3pi

Solution: We will look at the diagram...

    picture of circle t.=.3pi


    So the terminal point determined by 3pi is (-1,0).



Example 2:

Find the terminal point on the unit circle determined by -pi.

Solution: From the diagram we see

    picture of circle t.=.-pi


    The terminal point determined by -pi is (-1,0).



Example 3:

Find the terminal point on the unit circle determined by -pi/2.

Solution: The diagram looks like:

    picture of circle t.=.-pi/2


    The terminal point determined by -pi/2 is (0,-1).



Example 4:

Find the terminal point on the unit circle determined by 3pi/2.

Solution: Looking at the diagram

    picture of circle t.=.3pi/2


    The terminal point determined by 3pi/2 is (0,-1).



Notice that different values of t can determine the same terminal point!
